Peter Molyneux essentially confirms Natal for Fable 3

Lionhead Studio's Peter Molyneux.Peter Molyneux is one of the most eccentric personalities in the development community, a fact he hammers home in every interview he gives. His most recent, done with gamekings.tv, had a lot of the typical Molyneux linguistic hyperbole and included what could be considered a confirmation of Natal for use in Fable 3.

When asked about Natal in Lionhead’s RPG franchise, Molyneux said this: “And obviously what would probably happen if I started talking about this is you would see a little red dot appear moving on my forehead. And then as I would start to speak the words then there would be a shotgun fire, and I would be assassinated. Quite clearly, it is that sensitive.” That’s almost as absurd as everything he promised for both Fable games to date. Obviously it’s a bit of a joke, but he goes on to essentially confirm use of the peripheral.

“Do you really think, knowing me, as maybe you do over the years, I wouldn’t want to use something like Natal? I mean, that’s just mad, man.” I would love to say that the rest of the interview is interesting, but I didn’t really think it was. It’s nice to know that Molyneux is investing heavily in Natal – Milo and almost certainly Fable 3 – but he’s still comes off as a deluded individual with an overinflated sense of his contribution to the world at large.

Dragon Age: Origins character creator to be available October 13th

DA:O character creation screen.Bioware has announced the release of a PC character creator for the upcoming Dragon Age: Origins. The software will be available starting October 13th. The tool is meant to give you a little prep time before the game launches on November 3rd.

I think it’s a great move. I love games with custom characters, but I usually don’t spend any time with the feature until my second toon. My first character starts off to be the epic beast I plan to use to rule the planet. About three minutes in, though, my desire to actually play the game takes over and I end up with a crooked beard and bad teeth.

Alongside the character creator, Bioware is opening the game’s community site. There you’ll be able to upload your custom characters and participate in the game specific forums.

Valve announces L4D2 pre-order bonuses

Left 4 Dead 2 squad.Pre-order bonuses have never thrilled me; developers usually package the good stuff with the collector’s editions. Valve’s Left 4 Dead sequel is no different. The company announced the pre-order bonuses this week, and they’re about what you would expect.

Those of you pre-ordering Left 4 Dead 2 will get early demo access, which has become pretty standard with these deals. There’s also an in-game exclusive, the American baseball bat, which is one of 10 new melee weapons for crushing some zombie skull. Participating retailers (yup, Steam is doing it) will also be offering a 10% savings on retail price.

You first chance at smacking the undead will come October 27th with the demo. Pre-order before then to make sure you’ll have access.

Assassin’s Creed 2 Rounds Third, Heads For Home

Ezio diving head first. Not to be outdone by Bioware, Ubisoft confirmed some carnal experiences for Assassin’s Creed 2. Bioware has long been champion of the cause for sex in video games, with sequences like those in Mass Effect and the upcoming Dragon Age: Origins.

The Ubisoft announcement came in the form a response to a fan by Benoit Lambert, director for the sequel to everyone’s favorite medieval stabfest. He called Ezio a womanizer, but would say little else. “There’s a bit of sex. I can’t say more.” Sounds like we’ll get some sideboob and a “tastefully” cropped shot of some pixelated buttocks. In any case, I’m sure we’ll have the answers November 20th. The moment you say “we’ve got sex,” you’ve issued a challenge to the league of perverts who also happen to be gamers.

Sony Really Wants The PSP Go To Fail

PSP UMD disc. When Sony first announced the PSP Go, I decried the lack of a UMD drive. The nonexistent feature meant existing collections of PSP games could not be used on the new device. Then there was hope. Sony announced plans to implement a “good will” program by which PSP owners with UMD discs would be able to get a digital copy for use with the PSP Go.

Well it looks like that’s not going to happen. “We were evaluating a UMD conversion program, but due to legal and technical reasons we will not be offering the program at this time,” an SCEA spokesperson said today. The change makes the “upgrade” even less appealing for its October 1st launch.
