There are some video gamers in my generation, which is the Baby Boomer generation.
One that is really popular with my crowd is called, Obamacare: The Quest for Subsidies.
No, wait. That one is not a video game, it is a distorted form a reality that is played on computers, but any game console with web browsing capabilities would also allow you to play.
In Obamacare, players from my generation, many of them with a multitude of medical conditions, try to get the government to subsidize their health care by forcing perfectly healthy youngster to purchase health insurance they do not need.
Actually, the true intent of this article is to provide an analogy of how the assorted threats that the younger generations always face change with the passage of time.
When I was growing up, all manner of authority figures from parents to teachers to elected officials and anyone else with a smattering of credibility exerted considerable effort into convincing everyone that the most diabolical threat to ever rear its ugly head was television.
Kids with disciplinary issues in school were often sent home with notes informing their parents that the problem was that little Johnny was watching too much TV, instead of reading books and doing his homework.
The funny thing is, little Johnny grew up and launched himself into a career in the television industry, where he was paid tremendous sums for watching television and creating new shows.
Then, little Johnny became adult Johnny. The threat to his children, he was told, was the untold hours his kids spent playing video games of all descriptions. Johnny’s kids were going to suffer as adults if they did not put down the controllers and go outside to play and breathe fresh air.
One of Johnny’s kids, straight out of college, got a job with one of the big players in the video game industry, and now makes a ton of money for testing and creating video games. He spends a lot of his time taking advantage of free bookie bets and online free bets, and his familiarity with technology means that he is more than a little adept.
I suppose those kids will be hearing something about how their kids are spending too much time fooling around with robots or time travel. Since I don’t know the future, I can’t be certain, but rest assured, it will be something.
