LoL: Patch Day (Akali)

Stinger Akali.

Patch Day is once again upon us, this time heralding the release of Akali, the Fist of Shadow. It’s a patch I’m excited for, mostly because the ninja trio is finally complete. There are some other good changes, though, including a Shen nerf, a Master Yi semi-buff (more on this later) and, an Amumu buff, and some minor changes for several other heroes. This patch also gives us Gentleman Cho, so be ready for well-dressed alien epicurean exploits.

First, we should talk Akali. As mentioned in my initial review, she is too hybrid for the current itemization. If you’d like more than just my opinion, consider that Phreak’s Akali spotlight recommends Mejai’s Soulstealer and Sword of the Occult if she’s going to do well. It makes sense to a degree, but it also points out a significant gap in the itemization. The best thing after Guinsoo’s Rageblade is two high risk/mediocre reward items? Seems to me the 1235g for Mejai’s would be much better spent toward some real AP for Rylai’s or a Brutalizer on the way to your Ghostblade.

The Master Yi situation seems like a stopgap to me. It might keep the Yi fanatics from crying quite as much but he still suffers his old fate. He’s highly susceptible to CC, often requires his ult for escape rather than attack, and offers none of the team utility of other melee DPS toons. I’ll take a Garen/Pantheon/Udyr/Mundo/Shaco/Warwick/Gangplank and even Tryndamere over Yi any day of the week. Yi’s only strength is backdooring towers, and if he’s left to do so your team likely would have won anyway. He is undeniably better than before, but to a pathetic degree. It’s like “improving” a car by giving it a sunroof. Nice? Sure. Does it improve the functionality of the vehicle? Not so much.

The Amumu buff will be especially nice for the first 6-8 levels. That’s typically the worst part of Amumu play because of his long cooldowns and pathetic early-game damage. With an attack buff and some cooldown reduction for Tantrum, he should farm much better and generally seem more enjoyable at every phase of the game.

I’m willing to wait to pass judgement on Udyr until I hear a little bit more from Udyr players. I rarely play the shapeshifter, mostly because I struggle in the jungle (I know, it’s sad). I do know a few Udyr fans, so I’ll see what they make of the nerf before I offer any targeted opinion. I will say that using Treeline as the baseline for buffs/nerfs seems ridiculous when Mundo is so god-forsakenly strong on that map and hasn’t even been grazed by the nerf stick.

Enjoy the time with the new champ tomorrow! As always, I’m sitting on enough IP to buy her several times over, so you can bet I’ll be playing her as soon as possible.

LoL: New skins on the way

New skins. When the Garen patch leaked, so did a whole slew of skins, only some of which were available when Garen went live. According to an official post on the announcement forums, the missing skins will be available soon.

Yes, we’ll finally get a chance to play as Scuba Gragas, Bird of Prey Anivia (worst name ever), and Tribal Ryze. I really like all three skins, so it looks like I’ll be plunking down the cash for a fresh flight of Riot Points. I’m glad to see a non-ice-themed Anivia skin. It could make me play her a bit more often. Scuba Gragas is pretty amazing as well, and though I don’t play Ryze much, I’m a big fan of that skin.

Now, if Riot would just give me an IP option for buying skins (I don’t care if they cost 50,000 IP) I could finally spend the IP I have sitting around.

Do I Have to Go to Vegas to Bet at a Sports book?

For a long time, if you wanted to bet on a sporting event, you had to go to Nevada to do so legally. Now, you can place your wagers online from the comfort of your own home. There’s no need to fly or drive to Vegas; instead, you can log on to your favorite sports book website and make the bet of your choice. This makes sports betting a hobby that nearly anyone can enjoy.

For those who don’t have the time or money to travel, sportsbooking websites are an excellent way to enjoy a favorite sport not having to worry about scheduling time off work for a trip across the country. Alternatively, you can spend an evening relaxing at home or in a bar, enjoying the sporting event of your choice. With smartphones gaining in popularity, you can place your wager from nearly any location, making betting on the match or game easier than ever.

Sportsbooking sites let you wager on all the games and matches that a brick and mortar wagering destination offers, in one convenient location. Whether you’re a fan of mixed martial arts, horse racing, or football, there’s sure to be a wagering site that meets your needs. While football and baseball are popular sports for wagering, boxing also draws quite the online crowd.

Most online websites have extremely small minimum wagers, some as low as $5. This option is making sports betting a viable option for nearly everyone – there’s no longer a need to spend hundreds of dollars just to place one bet; instead, you can keep your wager within your budget without stressing about large minimum bids.

When you decide to place a wager with an online sportsbooking site, you’re making the choice to relax and enjoy yourself, while increasing your income potential. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Keep Your Game Playing Fast with a Broadband Connection

Bigger Games Requiring Faster Connections

Today’s Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Games (MMORPGs) are immersive, online worlds players experience using their computers and a connection to the Internet. MMORPGs allow users to be whoever they want to be in a game, a sorceror, warrior, human or alien. Some MMORPGs have become famous even outside their fanbases; names like ‘Everquest,’ and ‘World of Warcraft’ are familiar even to people who don’t play computer games. A new game from a company based in the US is called ‘Alganon.’ Alganon is a fantasy setting in which players choose male or female characters, and then start their career fighting the enemy in a familiar class, such as warrior or wizard. One thing all these games have in common is the need for a high-speed Internet connection so that the gameplay is smooth and uninterrupted. Some new websites in the UK are providing players with the best means of finding exactly the broadband deals they want, at the right price.

Playing Alganon Over Broadband

Broadband-finder websites allow a user to set his or her desired price, and then find the best deal available in their area, based on their postal code. Players of the game Alganon definitely want a broadband connection, because the game is fast-paced, and requires constant connection with a server to record character progress. It’s difficult for a fantasy wizard to fry zombies with spells over a phone line; an incoming call disconnects the game, and possibly results in the character’s death. Only a broadband connection allows an Alganon player to stay at the action. And there’s lots of reason to stay in the world of Alganon non-stop; characters gain experience and grow stronger by accomplishing chains of quests given out by the detailed, realistic non-player characters.

LoL: Patch impressions part 1

Desert Trooper Garen. It’s been a crazy week. My sister and brother-in-law were in town for the early week and I had a crazy workday today. Luckily I have the night in, so I’m going to be doing some serious testing with all the changes with the new patch. So far I’ve made some decent progress so I’ll start with those and make another post either late this evening or tomorrow.

First, Katarina. I have to say, I’m impressed by how much improved she feels. She is by no means dominant, but she’s plenty strong if you play smart and safe with a good lanemate. Her early game harass has been slightly improved with the change to KI and the added durability from KI -> Shunpo is really nice. Personally, I think damage is the way to go now. AP just doesn’t scale as well any more and the farm required to get damage to that scary level feels much lower than the AP threshold.

Next up is Nunu. I’ve never been a big Nunu fan, but he feels much stronger than he did. The Blood Boil change is enough to make him an excellent addition to most teams. I was also noticing the Visions change much more than I thought I would. Maybe it was just the team I was against, but I felt better about my contribution to the team than ever before with the Yeti Rider.

Of course I have to talk about Garen. After a few matches I remain on the fence. Building him as a tank can be fun; his W skill makes him next to unkillable in most situations. Unfortunately, tank Garen doesn’t do much damage, and other than the long cooldown on W he doesn’t really have any other tanking skills. I’d still much rather have Shen in the mix. He does deal excellent early game damage, but if you can’t get ahead he can be very frustrating. You pop Judgement waiting for big numbers that never come. There’s also a bit of a bug with his Decisive Strike wherein critical strikes don’t appear to apply the bonus damage from the skill and don’t benefit from critical damage bonuses. In one game I was critting for 500+ with normal strikes and just over 300 with Justice rank 5, which I believe is 120 bonus damage. Something is a little off there. His ult is fine, but it’s really a kill-stealer/finisher, a type of skill that has never impressed me. Mordekaiser’s ult is very similar and provides the added benefit of a pet to go tank towers or last hit creeps and champions.

That’s it for now folks. Feel free to add me at ‘The Wiggin Boy’ for some in-game madness.
