Champions Online goes free to play this weekend

Champions Online hero.If Halloween isn’t really your thing or you just prefer to dress up a digital version of yourself, you’re about to have a great weekend. Instead of running around in a drunken costumed craze, Cryptic will allow you to play Champions Online for free.

The free weekend is part of a promotion for the game’s first patch, Blood Moon. If you don’t remember from my original spot, the game adds the typical Halloween horror to your online experience: zombies, werewolves, a demonic lord parading about. Sounds like a blast if you ask me.

Modern Warfare 2 bundle release date surfaces

Modern Warfare 2 limited edition bundle.Just a week after the 250GB PS3 Slim was announced, that Modern Warfare 2 bundle, the one with a similarly sized hard drive, got a release date. Yesterday both Amazon and Costco posted November 10th for the release date on the bundle.

For $399.99 you’ll get a console with a 250GB hard drive, two wireless controllers in black, and, of course, the game. In keeping with recent SKU changes, the console only comes with standard def. cables, a big letdown for what is otherwise a premium setup. If you’re looking to get your hands on one, please please please don’t overpay for your HDMI cable. You can find them online for less than most value meals.

Half-Life on sale at Steam for 55.8% off

Gordon Freeman looking badass. There are a couple reasons to break down, buy some Half-Life, and lock yourself in your room and play the series through this weekend. The first is that Gordon Freeman was named “All-Time Greatest Video Game Hero” by the gaming community at Gamestop this week with 55.8% of the vote (which is more than it takes to be president! (decade-old jokes are so good!)). The other reason is that all the Half-Life games are on sale for 55.8% off on Steam in honor of the…honor.

So if you’re a little bored, or if you’ve never played Counter-Strike for some ridiculous reason, get yourself some Half-Life for a decent deal. It’s probably better than the ways you were planning to spend this weekend, anyway.

PSP Go already on sale

PSP Go.Usually when a console debuts you can expect prices to remain stable for a while. The hype of the console sells it, usually at just about any price. The PSP Go, on the other hand, is already on sale at Fry’s for $199.

The price drop confirms that profit margins must be pretty wide on Sony’s new portable. Not too many people are buy the thing, and there isn’t exactly the same expected software revenue as other portables, so taking a loss really doesn’t make sense. With so few purchasers, it seems like Fry’s is just trying to be the only retailer to sell out of the device before the holiday season hits.

The deal is only good in-store until the 22nd, and may not be available everywhere so be sure to call ahead.

Toys R Us has a 3-fer-2 sale this week

Toys R Us.That the video game industry has been in a backward slide lately hasn’t been all bad. Companies are ready to make big deals just to get people to buy, well, anything, so it’s been possible to pick up two or three of the newest titles for reasonable rates. Toys R Us is offering up another deal this week, this time in the form of a buy two, get the third free. The sale applies to both games and accessories.

It’s a pretty sweet deal, though I don’t think you can mix and match accessories. Also not sure if it works with pre-orders, but you could always pick up a new game like Uncharted 2 and trade it back in for Forza 3 (yes, mixing some systems) when it releases later this month. The accessory deal is good on anything up to $100, so if you’ve been looking at a controller and maybe a charging station, now could be a good time to get it. Remember, the deal is only good for a week.
