Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 improves on a great franchise

The Tiger Woods franchise has always been a good one, and it’s one of few sports franchises for which the Wii outperforms its competition. PGA Tour 11 takes the good from previous versions of the game and improves upon pretty much the entire experience.
One of the best parts of the new game is the True Aim system, which IGN details below:
The first and biggest addition is known as True-Aim. I, for one, have wanted to get closer to the real thing without having to adventure into the super-difficult Tour Pro setting. True-Aim, coupled with the focus mechanic that I’ll talk about in the next paragraph, helps to up the difficulty without making it frustrating. True-Aim removes the accuracy circle when zooming into your shot and forces you to aim your ball entirely from an over-the-shoulder camera. You have the same viewpoint as you would in real golf. That means there’s no more camera tracking as your ball flies through the air. Instead, you’re left to judge from the crowd and commentators’ reactions how well you fared. It’s much more realistic.
If there was one thing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 did right, it’s making the realistic aspects of the game more accessible, without requiring you to enter the crushingly difficult modes of the game.
EA announces Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11

Finally, there’s a corporation in the world that’s willing to move on from Tiger’s sex life and continue to endorse him for what he does best (yes, better than cheating on his wife – he failed at keeping that quiet): playing golf. EA officially announced today that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 is in development.
The game will launch in June of this year for the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, and the iPhone. I really wish there were more jokes to be had at Tiger’s expense, but really I’m just glad that this little saga is at the beginning of its end.
Sure, Tiger’s income looks a lot more like a trickle than the insane waterfall of years past, but it’s better than nothing, right?

EA moves forward with Tiger

According to a report from Reuters, EA is forging ahead with its Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online game, despite his recent PR snafus. The statement came from EA Sports prez Peter Moore, who reinforced the company’s stance that Tiger has a sponsorship for his golf skills, not his monogamy.
“Our relationship with Tiger has always been rooted in golf,” Moore wrote on EA’s blog itsinthegame.com. “We didn’t form a relationship with him so that he could act as an arm’s length endorser.” I thought the timing of the statement was odd, coming just four days after AT&T dropped Tiger from its payroll. I think EA’s doing the smart thing, though. Sure, people are pissed, but Tiger’s fans will be Tiger’s fans, and people who appreciate what he’s capable of on the golf course will still buy his games, regardless of how many women he’s nailing at the time.

EA sounds uneasy about Tiger Woods franchise
Posted by Jeff Morgan (12/19/2009 @ 3:21 pm)
Companies are dropping their Tiger Woods sponsorships like crazy in light of his latest press explosion. To think, all it takes is a twelve-woman affair to turn hundreds of millions of dollars into thin air. EA was an exception, one of a rare group of corporations willing to wait for this all to blow over.
“Our strong relationship with Tiger for more than a decade remains unchanged. We respect Tiger’s privacy, we wish him a fast recovery and we look forward to seeing him back on the golf course.” That’s from a company statement on December first. After his decision to take indefinite leave from his sport of choice, though, EA sounds a little uneasy about Tiger.
“We respect that this is a very difficult, and private, situation for Tiger and his family,” said a company statement to the New Britain Herald. “At this time, the strategy for our Tiger Woods PGA Tour business remains unchanged.” The language is ambiguous enough that EA could do anything, which is probably a smart play. Honestly, unless Tiger Woods 2011 grants players an extra golf bag with fourteen spots for women, I don’t think I’ll be buying.
