Trade feature preserves the owner’s skin

Shamrock Malphite.

I jumped online for a quick game with my buddy this morning . We typically duo queue a couple times during the day, especially after there’s a patch. Bans went Kog’Maw, Amumu, Shen, Vladimir, leaving Morgana open for first pick. I didn’t really feel like playing her, but I definitely didn’t want to play against her. My friend has been on a Morgana kick, so he offered to swap if I chose her, which I did.

Our opponents first picked Ezreal and Miss Fortune, so I figured Malphite would be a good tank. He’s a blast since the buff and the armor was definitely going to help out against those two. Once everyone’s selection had been placed we traded and popped into the load screen. My friend doesn’t own a ton of skins, so I was surprised to see him with Fallen Angel. He said he didn’t own it (I do, though). Then I realized I had Shamrock Malphite, which I definitely don’t own. My friend does, though.

As it turns out, swapped champions will retain whatever skin the owner put on the champion. I don’t know if it’s intended, but it could be a cool way to get players to buy skins. When I was running around as green Malphite, I actually started to like the skin. I think the glow of Brutal Strikes on his regular skin is much cooler, but being big and green is kinda neat. I think it’s totally reasonable to assume that once players see themselves in a given skin, they might be more willing to drop down some cash on it.

Kickass skins in the upcoming patch

Greybeard Veigar.

Riot nailed it again with this latest batch of skins. I’m really excited about a couple of these, though I’m probably going to be waiting for sales (I would buy so many more skins if they were just a bit cheaper). This patch brings Greybeard Veigar, Commando Garen, and Shurima Desert Zilean along with the Cowgirl and Waterloo skins for Miss Fortune.

I’m really excited about the quality of these skins. Whatever happened to the Riot five or six patches ago was a great thing because the skin quality lately has been impressive. Now if we could just bring down the cost.

Hextech Sion gets a big discount this week

Hextech Sion.

Riot’s dropping a really nice discount on the Hextech Sion skin this week, which I’ve always thought was one of the coolest skins in the game. Instead of the usual 975 RP, you can snag him for just 243 RP from Tuesday to Saturday this week.

The sale also includes Bird of Prey Anivia and Chrome Rammus, which go from 520 RP and 975 RP to 260 RP and 487 RP, respectively.

Hextech Singed, Annie in Wonderland released today

Hextech Singed.

Singed players, rejoice! Your long wait for a great skin is finally over. Today, Riot released Hextech Singed, a steampunk version of your favorite mad chemist that looks like something straight out of the movie ‘9’ (as does the Hextech Galio). It’s an incredibly kick-ass skin.

Today we also get access to the legendary Annie in Wonderland skin. Once you see Tibbers in a bunny suit, replete with a cummerbund, I’m sure you’ll fall in love. That thing is just hilarious.

This new batch of skins also included Tundra Hunter Warwick. Let me just warn you, the loading screen is much cooler than the skin in game. In game he looks like a Warwick paint job, but damn if that loading screen isn’t cool.

The Warwick skin is 520 RP while the Singed and Annie skins are 975 and 1820 RP respectively.

Riot bumps skin quality for the Galio patch

Grungy Nunu.

Vladimir launched with some of the best skins Riot has given a new champion. Both skins included model changes and were great revisions on his classic skin. The Galio skins have sadly returned to the standard recolor format, but Riot is releasing some incredible skins for other champions on the side.

This patch will bring Guerrilla Tristana, Bandito Fiddlesticks, and Grungy Nunu (an Oscar the Grouch/Cookie Monster) knockoff. These skins are worlds better than the skins we typically see released, and none of them have been called out as legendary in value. I’m really hoping these fall at the 520 RP range, but I’d guess all three will be 975. Honestly, they’re the first skins that warrant that price. Ten bucks is still way too much for a skin, but in the Riot hierarchy of batshit crazy prices, these are among the best of the bunch.
