Forza 3 Goes Gold, Prepares For Demo

Forza 3 Motorsport.Microsoft and Turn 10 announced today that Forza 3 has gone gold more than a month before release. The game is set to hit North American shelves October 27th, but it looks like we’ll also have a chance to play the game early. A demo of the game is set to hit Xbox Live on September 24th.

The demo has been designed to show off all the features that are new to the franchise. We’ll get to see the new cockpit view, play with the rewind features, and probably spend most of our time looking at the new damage model. The demo is also going to support online leaderboards, giving us a chance to start the competitive racing a bit early.

As for cars the demo will be limited to just five:
– 2007 Porsche #80 Flying Lizard 911 GT3-RSR
– 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro
– 2009 Ferrari California
– 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR
– 2009 Mini John Cooper Works

If you haven’t purchased your pre-order, now might be the time to do so. Once that demo hits I’m sure plenty of people will be looking for pre-release sales.

Halo Waypoint Hits Your Hands Nov. 5

Master Chief in the desert. The Halo Waypoint Twitter account posted some fantastic information earlier today. The service designed to completely inundate you with anything and everything related to Halo launches on November 5th.

As the Twitter feed said:

Nov 5. Mark it on your calendar. That’s when you will get your hands (or controllers) on Halo Waypoint. 🙂

Just think of the massive influx of pimple-faced boys, those same 13 year-olds who corpse hump you and call you all sorts of non-PC names, that will be gracing the Xbox Live servers on the 5th, hoping for gratuitous Cortana nudity. It could be a great day, but it’s probably going to be a sad day.

Do You Want to Know a Secret? The Beatles still rock.

Okay, so maybe that wasn’t much of a secret. After all, when Harmonix first announced that the world’s greatest band would be getting the “Rock Band” treatment back in 2008, everyone pretty much expected the game to be awesome. Now that we’ve had the chance to play it, however, we can say with complete confidence that while it may not be much of a revolution, it’s exactly what the music rhythm genre needed. Released today (The Beatles always had a thing for the number 9) for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii, “The Beatles: Rock Band” is a visually stunning tribute completely deserving of the same unique identity that the band brought to its amazing, decade-long career.

Though many will no doubt complain about the fact that the game doesn’t work with past (or future) “Rock Band” releases, if anyone was going to get a standalone title, it was going to be The Beatles. Thankfully, Harmonix has done a great job of translating the band’s prolific career to video game form, taking you on a musical journey that starts with their early performances at The Cavern Club to their rooftop farewell at Apple Corps. Rewarding players with iconic photos and never-before-released audio and video clips, “The Beatles: Rock Band” really is the ultimate fan experience. Better yet, although the game only boasts 45 songs, full-length albums have already been announced as DLC in the future. The first to be released? Abbey Road.

Check out Bullz-Eye’s full review of the game and, after you’ve had a chance to play it yourself, come back to let us know what you think.

Limited Edition Beatles Xbox 360 Up For Auction

beatles xbox 360Alongisde the release of The Beatles:Rock Band this week, Microsoft is running a few special promotions for a charity of the band’s choosing. The most notable is a set of Limited Edition Xbox 360 consoles that have been customized with art from the opening cinematic for the game. The consoles are currently up for auction on eBay, the proceeds of which will go to Doctors Without Borders, a charity the remaining band members and wives selected.

Microsoft will also be putting the Beatles’ “All You Need Is Love,” up for sale on the Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow. The proceeds from those sales will also go to the band’s selected charity. Purchase of the song will also enter Xbox Live members into a sweepstakes to win one of the Limited Edition consoles.

All in all it seems like a pretty cool promotion. Spend a bunch of money, do alittle good, everyone goes home happy. You can see the full list of rules at Xbox.com.

Bungie Isn’t Talking “Reach” Just Yet

Halo: Reach. It’s hard not to think of Halo 3:ODST as the expansion it was first billed as. Sure they’ve added a load of features, and there’s even a mini-game now. But the game is really just an extension of a story that’s already been finished, a tale with an ending. Bungie’s committed to the title – in fact, they’re not even willing to talk about Halo:Reach.

Bungie’s community leader Brian Jarrard spoke at PAX this year regarding both releases. “Obviously right now what we’re excited about is the impending launch of ODST, so we don’t want to totally start talking about next year’s model before this one’s even off the assembly line.” Alright, so he doesn’t sound that committed to the current title, does he?

I don’t blame the guy. I realize Halo:Reach has the same problem I mentioned above – a story that’s already done – but it’s far enough removed from what I consider a trilogy’s timeline that it’s also entirely different.
