Sony nazi ads are fake

Fail.Looking for a surefire way to lose your biggest client? All you have to do is leak ad mock-ups featuring company products reviving dead nazis. That should do the trick. As you’ve no doubt gathered, the PS3 ads that leaked the aren’t day aren’t real. Well, they’re real in the sense that they exist, and they were actually made by an advertising firm for Sony, but Sony never approved them.

That’s good news for Sony, though I can’t imagine the company is particularly pleased, and really bad news for BBDO, the ad firm behind the offending material. Here’s a statement from the executive prez of BBDO Chile:

This creative design did not involve and was never approved by Sony Computer Entertainment or Sony. This “mock campaign” was developed by BBDO Chile staff and was submitted to various creative competitions/festivals without prior notification or approval from SCE/Sony, and it is not representative of the views or advertising policies of SCE/Sony. BBDO Chile apologizes for using this creative concept without authorization or prior approval, and for its misrepresentation of the PlayStation brand and its values.

Yeah, they should have seen that one coming. Submitting ads that racy with no prior approval is just stupid.

Assassin’s Creed 2 Rounds Third, Heads For Home

Ezio diving head first. Not to be outdone by Bioware, Ubisoft confirmed some carnal experiences for Assassin’s Creed 2. Bioware has long been champion of the cause for sex in video games, with sequences like those in Mass Effect and the upcoming Dragon Age: Origins.

The Ubisoft announcement came in the form a response to a fan by Benoit Lambert, director for the sequel to everyone’s favorite medieval stabfest. He called Ezio a womanizer, but would say little else. “There’s a bit of sex. I can’t say more.” Sounds like we’ll get some sideboob and a “tastefully” cropped shot of some pixelated buttocks. In any case, I’m sure we’ll have the answers November 20th. The moment you say “we’ve got sex,” you’ve issued a challenge to the league of perverts who also happen to be gamers.

Playstation 3: Giving Blood Transfusions To Nazis Since 2009

Sony nazi ad.Sony is apparently willing to try anything to get you to buy its console. There was that creepy unofficial ad depicting a man with a thumb for a penis, and who could forget the bizarre “playface” campaign. The company’s latest is sure to get some blood boiling. The ad depicts a gamer giving a blood transfusion to a nazi. In an alternate image, the same gamer is giving Joan of Arc his heart via transplant.

Honestly, I don’t even know what these ads are supposed to mean. Were things the other way around it would still be a stretch, but you could run with the idea that Sony games are so realistic it’s like you’ve become someone else. Come to think of it, that’s really not so bad, except that someone else in this case is a nazi. Well, hats off to Sony for courage. The company sure isn’t afraid of a little failure. Or a lot of it.

250GB PS3 Slim Spotted On Amazon UK

PS3 Slim.I don’t know what’s been happening with console manufacturer’s recently but they just don’t have their shit together. It’s leak after leak, and really none of them have been that exciting. Price drops are cool, yes, and so are bigger hard drives, but the fact that we’ve known about all of them before they’ve been officially confirmed seems sloppy and a little lazy. Can we blame the recession?

Well there’s another leak on the market today. Amazon UK has posted a 250GB PS3 Slim. It’s the first Slim model with that extra-large hard drive to be seen outside the Europe and Japan bundles. Is Sony saving the US bundles for the holiday season? If they are, it seems a safe bet we’ll know about it well in advance of the release, and any official announcement from Sony.

Infinity Ward Is Too Committed To Call Of Duty

Infinity Ward Logo.As the release date for Modern Warfare 2 creeps ever closer, gamers and game journalists (mostly the latter) are starting to wonder what Infinity Ward’s next game will be. The developer has made a killing out of killing in the Call of Duty franchise, and it doesn’t look like it’s ready to change.

When we feel like we can’t innovate any further in the Call of Duty franchise, then we’ll do something else. A lot of that mentality went into Modern Warfare 2. That’s why it’s Modern Warfare 2. It is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, but you’ll never see that in game. We never call it that. It’s because we think of this as a new IP. This is our Modern Warfare 2 game. So we are constantly doing new stuff.

That’s according to community manager Robert Bowling. I find the company’s stance pretty disappointing, especially considering the quality products it has turned out so far. Yes, Call of Duty is a lot of fun, but why not some new IP? Obviously the answer is in the numbers; as long as people keep buying the product, why change?

Loyalty to the consumer, that’s why. Consumers obviously buy franchise material, but the industry is mature enough to support growth for new IPs. The real reason behind these perpetual franchises is loyalty to the investor, a business model I wish someone in the industry were willing to abandon. I’m not saying developers shouldn’t make money, but that they should be willing to take more risks to make that money because the risk is actually fairly small.

And yes, I realize this is all very unrealistic. It doesn’t hurt to dream, though.
