Riven Sneak Peek is Up

Riot posted the latest champion sneak peek this weekend, giving us a glimpse of Riven, the Exile. It comes again in the form of a mini-comic with some incredibly cheesy and over-the-top nonsense for a storyline. Ah well, this game isn’t about lore. It’s about trolling and rage-quitting.

I haven’t seen anything about her skillset that isn’t speculative, so I’ll just say we’re waiting to see whether or not she should build a Trinity Force. My guess: yes. From her looks I’d say she’s another melee assassin, which seems like a really odd release after Talon. It might be interesting if she had some mobility and so was capable of being a real force on Dominion.

It looks like we’ll be waiting until next week for server downtime to bring her live, which will also mean the end of Season 1 and, hopefully, the launch of Dominion.

New Annie skin on the way

Reverse Annie

I had one and just one thought when I saw the Reverse Annie skin preview: That is awesome.

Then I thought about it some more and the following came up. I was thinking about snagging Frostfire Annie while she’s on sale, but that would mean buying more RP and I just don’t know if I want to do that right now. This, though, easily beats Frostfire for me, so I might have to wait for it to go on sale.

I’m also a little confused about the ways Riot continues to blur the lines between legendary and common skins. There are plenty of legendary skins that need a serious overhaul just to keep up with some of the amazing new stuff we’ve seen, this skin included. I’ve made this point before so I’ll spare you the rehash. Great skin, Riot. Now go fix Magnificent Twisted Fate.

I’m Ready for Normal Draft Mode

Normal vs. Ranked.

It’s been a while since I’ve played ranked for as long as I did to get my 1520 status in Solo Queue. Long enough that I had forgotten how much I love draft mode and loathe blind pick. With draft mode, I feel confident that I can pick an appropriate champion for any situation. I own every champion. I’ve played every champion for at least a few games. But certain comps just aren’t as good as others, and when I go up against one blind, I remember just how badly I want normal draft.

This week has been a particularly painful reminder because Master Yi is my champion of the week. I really enjoy Master Yi, and I think he has a lot of strengths, but he doesn’t compare to Nocturne, especially when Nocturne is paired up with Orianna, Mordekaiser, Vayne, and Taric. That’s actually a comp I faced today. The ragtag squad my team put together just wasn’t going to cut it, right out of the gate.

Do you think much about normal draft or are you content with blind pick?

Does a Quiet Riot Mean Dominion is Inbound?

Things have been awfully quiet from Riot’s offices over the past two weeks. We got the Talon release a week-and-a-half ago, but since then the only thing we’ve seen is the Karthus/Cassiopeia disable. Red forum posts have mostly been of a community flavor, with really nothing in the way of significant game discussion. Obviously the prevailing theory is that we’re about to get our paws on Dominion.

I hope it’s true. By this time we usually have at least a Champion Sneak Peek and sometimes an Art Spotlight. Riot will have some very restless customers on its hands if Dominion isn’t ready by patch day of next week (which I would like to stress again is Tuesday).

The Dominion launch is sort of a precarious thing for Riot. People will obviously be shot up about having a new game mode to play, but we’ve also been promised all sorts of things in the past that just haven’t been delivered. I hope Riot gets this one right.
