Earn A Halo If You Don’t Cheat At TF2

Team Fortress 2 demo man.Since removing the achievement-based item system, Valve has had about all the grief they can handle from unruly players. Where the old system led to players creating achievement servers just to unlock the goodies, the new system made prevalent the use of idling programs to attain the items.

Well Valve’s not happy with that second situation. They don’t want you idling your way to glory any more than they want you hacking, so they’re removing the items attained by idlers, and giving non-cheating types a little reward. If you didn’t idle your way to items, check for a level 1 Halo in your inventory. The headpiece gives you a level 1 “Aura of Incorruptibility”

As for future cheating, Valve’s Erik Johnson says they will “adopt a zero tolerance policy for external applications used to manipulate the persistent item system.” In other words, don’t do it.

Take Two Has Natal Dev Kits At All Studios

Take Two Interactive logo.Looks like Microsoft isn’t the only one thinking Natal is going to be a serious game changer. Take Two CEO Ben Feder had plenty to say about the Xbox 360 periph during today’s Q3 earnings call with investors.

Natal motion-sensors – yes we have dev kits, yes we’re working on them,” he said. “Obviously, we can’t comment on games we haven’t announced. But those dev kits are embedded in all of our studios, or just about all of our studios, and everybody’s working with them to try to figure out new ways in which we can innovate and create the kind of content that this company is famous for. So yes, we’re working on it.”

That’s a pretty serious commitment as I see it. Take Two isn’t just big, they’re huge, and it sounds like they’re dedicating a lot of resources to what is basically a new platform. Of course that could all just be talk, but why say so much when it could have just been, “Yes, we’re working on it.”

Regardless, I’m excited to see what next year holds. As we get closer to hardware release you have to bet developers like Take Two will be showing off their stuff.

Wii Fit Plus Out Oct. 4th For $19.99

Wii Fit Plus.Nintendo prez Reggie Fils-Aime stopped by the GameStop Manager Conference to announce details for Wii Fit Plus, the latest in Nintendo’s exercise game series. The new title is really an expansion of the first, hopefully adding more hula-hooping goodness to the existing game.

For thsoe of you who already own Wii Fit, the Plus version will run you a cool $19.99, and it’s available October 4th. If you don’t already own the game but want to see Nintendo continue to make money off this crazy game, Wii Fit Plus will be replacing the original version of the game at $99.99. That includes a Wii Fit Board and the new title. The new bundle will also be available October 4th.

Microsoft’s Shane Kim Says Natal Is About “Winning” This Generation”

Shane Kim.Microsoft’s XBox 360 Corporate VP Shane Kim recently sat down with OXM to talk about Project Natal and the future of the 360 platform. According to Kim, Natal is more than just a cool peripheral, it’s how Microsoft plans to bring “hundreds of millions” of gamers to platform and eventually win this generation.

Kim is aware, as is the rest of the world, that Natal seems on the outside like a response to Nintendo’s Wii, the console that’s actually winning the generation so far. He claims that’s not what Natal’s about, but that’s a hard sell. “This is about unlocking the potential and breaking down all the barriers that remain that prevent people who are intimidated or feel awkward with a controller in their hand – anything that prevents them from jumping in and having a great time with Xbox 360 and Xbox Live,” Kim said.

Kim’s sending a pretty clear message. The “barriers that remain” are obviously the things Nintendo didn’t do, which are the same things Kim thinks will help Natal win. You can read the rest of the interview over at OXM.

Best Buy Offers Half Off A 360 Game When You Buy Another

Best Buy.This week Best Buy is showing 360 gamers some love by offering half off one game when you buy another. As always with this sort of deal there is a limited list of titles available, but that list includes big hits like Halo 3 and Fable 2.

Oddly enough, you’ll notice Modern Warfare 2 is on the list, even though the qualifications say you can only choose from titles currently in stock. I highly doubt this promo will be running until November, when the game is set to release, but maybe you can pick up a pre-order on the cheap.

Best Buy has not issued a closing date for the sale, but I wouldn’t take my chances, especially you’re thinking about the new Call of Duty. I know several stores around here have already sold out of their pre-orders, and most are nearly out of the Prestige Edition as well.
