LoL: Shaco deceive is broken once again

Mad Hatter Shaco.

I’ve said plenty of times that I love Shaco. That frenetic, crazy playstyle just suits me. I’m also in love with all the control Shaco brings to the map. He is one of few characters that has a very easy time dealing with Warwick by himself in the early game.

Unfortunately Shaco is also fraught with bugs. The most current is one that shows up time and time again. Deceive isn’t granting the proper amount of bonus damage. Instead of dealing critical damage (200% of your base) + a bonus 40 percent at rank one, it’s only dealing base damage +40 percent. That sucks. A lot. It takes him from being one of the strongest early game characters to a fairly mediocre pile of excrement for the first ten minutes. His jungling potential is still there, and once you get a Madred’s you’ll hardly notice the difference, but as an avid Shaco fan I’m hoping they fix this one relatively soon. He’s so well-dressed now, how could you not want him to be a real contender again.

LoL: Invisible Udyr bug going around

Invisible Udyr post game.I had the misfortune of experiencing one of the craziest bugs I’ve seen since release. While rounding my enemy’s lizard camp on SR, I found that that lizard was down but the little minions were attacking something. I couldn’t see any hero, though, so I started to kill them so I would know when the camp respawned.

Suddenly, I heard Udyr’s Bear Stance and I got stunned, though I couldn’t see him. I thought it was lag, but I had full control of my character. Udyr…was invisible. I’m talking completely invisible, not even towers could see him. It was a terrible bug to experience, especially as an opponent. He could run around during teamfights and attack us and there was almost nothing we could do. I did manage to kill him once by attack moving near his location. Worst of all, our team was stomping theirs, but with such a strong hero permanently invisible, there was little we could do.

At one point my teammate started furiously pinging the enemy healing pad. There was Udyr, running and changing stances in place, just as he surely would have been on the field were this not massively glitched. This is horribly gamebreaking, and unfortunately Riot says it has been difficult to address because it’s hard to reproduce. Apparently it can happen with multiple champions, though my forum searches seem to find more instances of it happening with Udyr than anyone else.

LoL: Olaf Impressions

Glacial Olaf.

I was fortunate enough to catch a couple games with Olaf today so I wanted to share my impressions, as usual. Olaf is definitely a strong champion – potentially too strong, though I think his lack of a initiator/gap closer will be his weak point.

For starters, Olaf is insanely strong in the early game. My first match with him I managed to bait a Kayle/Nasus combo down my lane a bit before creeps had spawned. They had me to about 60 percent when I turned and my lanemate (another Kayle) and I rocked them. Olaf’s attack speed gets so high he is just unmanageable if you have to be close to deal damage.

Unfortunately, his passive is his one great strength. Yes, it is awesome, but I wish his other skills offered a bit more. Ghost is pretty much a necessity, because you just aren’t fast enough otherwise. If someone is toward the edge of your axe range, the distance they cover while you cast is enough that they’re out of range by the time your axe lands.

Olaf is very strong in the jungle, which is good considering his ability to burn through mana. Most of his skills are cheap, but they’re up often so you can really churn through that blue bar. It’s also really nice to have lizard buff early in the game for the slow. That means you can rely less on your somewhat sporadic axe and more on your heavy-hitting Reckless Swing.

The fact that Reckless Swing is pure damage is another strength. It deals what it deals, regardless of your enemy’s resistances. It can also hit you pretty hard in the early game, so be sure you’re going to live through the encounter before spamming this too hard.

As for the rest, it feels a little early to talk about Olaf’s position as a part of the ongoing metagame. Patch Day always encourages odd choices, and I saw more Kayle players today than I care to remember. I also seemed to see Ashe in every game I played, which meant I was getting kited all over the map. If you’ve enjoyed heroes like Pantheon or Mundo, give Olaf and go and let me know what you think.

Review – Green Day: Rock Band

Green Day: Rock Band. We’ve seen exclusive titles for classic bands like The Beatles, Aerosmith, and Metallica, and they all made sense. These are bands with huge and fanatic followings, bands that have all been a major part of rock and roll history.

And then there’s Green Day. Don’t get me wrong, I love Green Day. I grew up on Green Day. The first album I truly loved (and still listen to today) was 1,039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. But is Green Day the kind of band that warrants an exclusive Rock Band title?

Jason at Bullz-Eye Main had a chance to play the game over the weekend and found that while the band’s history lends a solid background for the game, ultimately it will probably only be the hardcore fans that are begging for more from the rock trio’s list of tracks. LoL: Patch Day 06/08 – Shaco, Jax, and Sivir get skins

Mad Hatter Shaco skin.

Among the goodies in today’s patch are three oft-rumored skins – Angler Jax, Mad Hatter Shaco, and Spectacular Sivir. I’m a particular fan of the Shaco skin – glad to see they finally put together the tech for his clone to get the skin. I will be buying the Shaco skin the moment I log in to the servers, even though I’m sure it will be the legendary skin for him (goodbye 1200+ RP).

Riot also finally made Angler Jax, a fishing pole wielding pile of unbalanced excrement (though they did finally fix his self-healing bugs). It looks pretty fantastic, despite my thinly veiled distaste for Jax. Spectacular Sivir is a bit…expected…but still pretty cool for the Sivir players of the world (wherever they are).
