What’s your top priority for the League?
This post started as a brief thought the other day and has since been echoed in forum posts by other players and an email chain between a couple of my friends. League of Legends is definitely in a bit of a lull after the end of the Season One Circuit. Dreamhack was a very cool event, and Riot did a nice job getting players excited to see the top teams compete. It was an event that made me hungry for more, but my excitement has waned a bit over the past month and I’m not alone.
There have been quite a few threads criticizing Riot lately, some of which have received very thorough response. Most every communication from Riot involves a breakdown of priorities and why it’s hard to put some features over others on the to-do list. Players experience the game very differently depending on level and skill, so how can Riot prioritize one group’s expectations over another?
I’m curious what your top priority would be when it comes to LoL. You can only pick one, so pick carefully. I’d like to suggest avoiding server stability because frankly, the servers are remarkably stable for a game that scaled as quickly as LoL. Also, server stability is such a tired subject I don’t think I can take much more. Give me something that you think will have a dramatic effect on the game.
For me, it’s new game modes. I loved the different game modes that were available in DotA. Hvaving different rulesets available that modify the experience of the game would add incredible replay value. Random Deathmatch would be fantastic, but I’d love to see other custom rulesets like the progressive draft we occasionally play on FG LoL Mondays. New game modes would also carry over to newer maps, should they release, giving players additional ways to enjoy the new maps.
What about you? What’s your top priority for the future of League of Legends?
Honestly? I think even one new map would shake things up on a massive scale. I mean, let’s face it, everyone knows the two current ones (ESPECIALLY the main one) like the back of their hands. Having to try out a new one, relearning and unlearning strategies, buffs, and routes… that would be fascinating.
Maps definitely, but I dont think thats for another few months
So I’ll go w/ teemo skins
Honestly as a long time DOTA player i have played on what is essentially the same map for the best part of 6 years and i still love it, the main addition I want to see is a more dynamic metagame. I reckon riot should be bolder with there nerfs/buffs
More focus on champs/items. We have a solid what 70+ champs and there pretty diverse in there feel when you play them (mostly). I just would like to see more concentration on balance and not OMG you have to pick set 20 out of 70 something champs in ranked or your a troll.
i dont get all the fuzz about new maps, ppl will play it because its new, then throw it away.
i do agree with you though about the modes. playing all random all top its fun for a change, but it need the help from riot to make it viable, like dota, it need the: “-solo mid” so minions wont spawn from other lanes, nor the jungle. u get my point? so yes, new modes. (run kitty run!)
Focus needs to be new ways of having fun. Might be new maps or new modes; it does feel like a grind now on some days. Current games, top priority is often winning instead of just having fun with friends.
I have friends with demanding professions that are new to the game – and they’re NOT goign to spending hundreds of hours to grind runes/champions/rune slots/mastery slots. After 5 or so crap games, it’s like… “uh… so… wanna do sometihng else?” and we do something else.
Trying to explain this game to people who’ve never played it, sometiems sounds kinda dumb when it comes out; some parts do get kind of old, like, “first 10 minutes you land last hits on creep, and occasionally hit the guys on the other side; kill guys, kill turrest, repeat 1,000 times..” Anything that’s new, anything that’s interesting, would help; new champs, new modes, whatever.
I want more balanceing now when I say balance I don’t mean there are OP champs, what I mean is there are too many UP champs, I consider ABOUT 40 of the champs competitive picks, that means there are a whopping 39 champions who just don’t cut it. There are about 5 reworks in the cogs right now and I’d love to see them come out in a timely manner.
Some champs could really just use some small number or ratio tweaks, or my favorite add some flavor to the move tack on a slow or an armor shred.
However there are a number of champions who were flawed by design, my first example would be master yi, he’s never picked seriously in ranked, his design is just not useful to the team as a whole, he provides no utility, no cc, his jungle is just plain average, hes squishy with no tools to avoid being insagibbed and for what? He does about 10% more dps then the runner up. No one is going to pick that. He could really use a redesighn his role is much better filled by the more durable melee dps or just about any ranged carry.
Shack and pantheon are the other end of the spectrum they both had about a month of being broken OP (aura stack shaco anyone?) I rode the shaco gravy train for about 2 months. For thus reason both were Nerfed into oblivion the problem with their kits is they go up and down the power scale very fast. Jitb is my most,Ed hated of shacks abilities I rely on it to jungle and nothing else, they are crappy mini wards, they can’t be used in ganks or team fights and jitb stacking is a silly gimmick. It also means shaco cannot steal enemy jungle creepin the pre game like any other competitive jungles, he has only two viable jungle routes any decent p,Ayer will know both paths find them and disrupt them. Compared to nocturne superior utility, built in dps steroids, reliable fear, higher defensive stats, and more power ful ability scaling AND ability base stats, and 5+ viable jungle routes and you have a direct upgrade.
