Blur Gets Bumped To 2010

Blur in action.Activision has decided to push Blur back for a 2010 release date, the company said in a press release today. The game, which is the newest from Bizarre Creations, was originally meant to launch in Q4 this year, featuring full damage modeling and a fresh take on vehicular combat.

Mike Griffith, the President and CEO of Activision Publishing, had this to say:

We are committed to making Blur a great new racing franchise, and we are very encouraged by the game’s design. The additional time will allow the studio to fully optimise the vision they set out to create for Blur including a distinctive and groundbreaking multiplayer mode that will appeal to a broad audience.

It makes me wonder what kind of shape the game is in. This close to projected release it should be pretty much finished. So what did they find that so desperately needed changed? Some bug? A nasty glitch? A system-killing bit of code? Whatever it was, it must have been serious.

That or they’ve been aware of this pushback for some time.

Blur Drops in November

Blur from Activision.Yesterday Activision announced that their new racing game, Blur, will be hitting stores this November. The title comes from Bizarre Creations, who you might remember from the Project Gotham series.

“In November we’ll release our new racing game Blur from Bizarre Creations. Blur had a strong showing at E3 as well, including the nomination for best racing game.” That’s from Mike Griffith. If you don’t know him you need to do some reading.

I don’t know what it is exactly, but I have so much more confidence in Activision since they acquired Blizzard. It’s hard not to believe in a company with the sheer amount of money Activision has, but that they saw fit to pick up an absolute juggernaut in the PC game industry makes my pants tingle for a reason I’m not sure I can identify.

My sexual proclivities aside, Blur actually looks pretty cool, and according to most retail joints, you can pick it up November 3rd.
