Do You Want to Know a Secret? The Beatles still rock.

Okay, so maybe that wasn’t much of a secret. After all, when Harmonix first announced that the world’s greatest band would be getting the “Rock Band” treatment back in 2008, everyone pretty much expected the game to be awesome. Now that we’ve had the chance to play it, however, we can say with complete confidence that while it may not be much of a revolution, it’s exactly what the music rhythm genre needed. Released today (The Beatles always had a thing for the number 9) for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii, “The Beatles: Rock Band” is a visually stunning tribute completely deserving of the same unique identity that the band brought to its amazing, decade-long career.

Though many will no doubt complain about the fact that the game doesn’t work with past (or future) “Rock Band” releases, if anyone was going to get a standalone title, it was going to be The Beatles. Thankfully, Harmonix has done a great job of translating the band’s prolific career to video game form, taking you on a musical journey that starts with their early performances at The Cavern Club to their rooftop farewell at Apple Corps. Rewarding players with iconic photos and never-before-released audio and video clips, “The Beatles: Rock Band” really is the ultimate fan experience. Better yet, although the game only boasts 45 songs, full-length albums have already been announced as DLC in the future. The first to be released? Abbey Road.

Check out Bullz-Eye’s full review of the game and, after you’ve had a chance to play it yourself, come back to let us know what you think.

Xbox 360 And PS3 Both Beat The Wii For Once

VGChartz sales for the past week.It looks like the price cuts from both Microsoft and Sony had their intended effects last week. Both consoles, the Xbox 360 and PS3, outsold the Wii for the first time in a long time, thanks to a massive sales boost for both parties.

The story comes from vgchartz.com, which lists the sales figures for each console in the handy chart above. You’ll notice the huge week to week variance for the 360 and the PS3. The 360 bumped 32% while the PS3 rocketed up 103%. All three consoles crowded the 75,000 unit mark.

News wasn’t all bad for Nintendo, though. The DS still topped the charts by a long shot, selling almost 125,000 units. The Wii will likely continue to be outsold, as the price cuts (and the PS3 Slim) were just announced this past week.

Wii Fit Plus Out Oct. 4th For $19.99

Wii Fit Plus.Nintendo prez Reggie Fils-Aime stopped by the GameStop Manager Conference to announce details for Wii Fit Plus, the latest in Nintendo’s exercise game series. The new title is really an expansion of the first, hopefully adding more hula-hooping goodness to the existing game.

For thsoe of you who already own Wii Fit, the Plus version will run you a cool $19.99, and it’s available October 4th. If you don’t already own the game but want to see Nintendo continue to make money off this crazy game, Wii Fit Plus will be replacing the original version of the game at $99.99. That includes a Wii Fit Board and the new title. The new bundle will also be available October 4th.

Get More Monkey Island For Wii On Monday

Tales of Monkey IslandMonday marks the release of Chapter 2 in the revamped Tales of Monkey Island series, The Siege of Spinner Cay. This next installment continues the often hilarious adventures of Guybrush Threepwood and his search for love and acceptance.

The game has been out for PC for several weeks now, which is still a shorter release gap than with Chapter 1. As with the original, Chapter 2 will run you 1,000 Wii Points. For some strange reason, Telltale is also encouraging you to consider buying an SD card from Amazon. It’s a strange plug to see in a press release but hey, who doesn’t love a little ad money.

Just so we’re clear, the 31st is an American release date only. As the press release mentions, the European version is imminent but as of yet undated.

Microsoft Will Stop Sending HD Cables With the Elite 360

Xbox 360 Elite.Looks like Microsoft is capitalizing just a little more on the fact that seemingly nothing will scare 360 gamers away. Yesterday we learned that the Microsoft console has an astounding 54.2% failure rate, but for some reason, that’s only scared 3% of Microsoft gamers away. Today Microsoft is wagging its wallet in our collective faces. They’ve decided to stop sending HD cables with the Elite 360.

This is a choice I would totally respect if I was 2006 Jeff. Back then the HDMI thing was mostly the stuff of nerdy dreams. Now, though, you can pick up an HDMI monitor for less than the price of your favorite console. And don’t pretend the games don’t look better on HDMI. They do. They look a lot better. So why not give that to the gamers who are spending the most money on your console? I realize I can get an HDMI cable for right around $4, but shipping one with the console serves as a convenience.

I’m sure there are plenty of people who don’t need the HDMI thinking, “what’s the big deal?” Well guess what – they aren’t going to be shipping component cables any more either. All you get is your SD composite cables. 2006 Jeff would take this sort of news with much indifference. 2009 Jeff is a little pissed.
