Apparently I’m top 1500-3000 by ELO

League splash.

A recent post asked Riot where the staff fell by ELO distribution and Riot actually responded. I see a couple of those guys regularly, at least I did when I was tryharding a bit and parked somewhere around 70 games over .500. From the looks of things, I’m in the top 1500-3000 players of the player base.

Here are the numbers:

Top 100:
Phreak 2417
Andy Ho (business analyst) 2310

Top 1500:
RiotJeffJew 2014
Ezreal 1985
Geeves 1970

Top 3000:
Zileas 1941
VeigarTheHorrible 1933
Pendragon 1915
Tryndamere 1900 (he was 2000 a week ago, but i guess he tried new stuff)

Shurelia was like ~1950, but not on the top 3000 list because she nerfed her rating on her primary live account to teach some of her family members the game. I don’t see her right now, so cant ask what her other smurf is called (other than darkshurelia)

Veigar would be a 2300 or 2400 if he played more on live.

I see Geeves and RiotJeffJew fairly often, by which I mean I’ve seen each of them a few times. Are you guys seeing any Rioters in your games?

It’s interesting to me that the gap is so small and that I see these guys as often as I do. I really do wonder how many people are playing the game if so many of the Riot staff are so high in the ELO charts. It’s pretty great that we’ll have access to this kind of information when Season One launches. I like to have goals in game, whether it’s just getting a win or trying to move up 100 spots on the leaderboard. I really didn’t think I was as high as I apparently am, which is also a nice bonus to this kind of info.

Season One launches July 13th!

Season One client.

Well, Riot proved me wrong…sort of. The League of Legends Season One will launch with much fanfare a week from today, along with the new hero, Xin Zhao.

Riot hasn’t released any more information regarding the inaugural season, other than pointing to the original Season One preview. Also, I should point out one very important word in Pendragon’s post – “targeting.” No guarantees on next Tuesday, folks.

I’m hoping Season One is as cool as it has the potential to be. I’ll mostly be playing the Solo 5v5 playlist, with the occasional 3v3 when I have friends online. I think it will be tough for me to find a solid 5v5 team, despite my active play schedule. I do tend to split my time these days, playing a few games here and there between a more active work schedule. I’m willing to bet most serious 5v5 teams will want to get a lot of playtime in over the next couple days.

LoL: Patch Day 06/08 – Shaco, Jax, and Sivir get skins

Mad Hatter Shaco skin.

Among the goodies in today’s patch are three oft-rumored skins – Angler Jax, Mad Hatter Shaco, and Spectacular Sivir. I’m a particular fan of the Shaco skin – glad to see they finally put together the tech for his clone to get the skin. I will be buying the Shaco skin the moment I log in to the servers, even though I’m sure it will be the legendary skin for him (goodbye 1200+ RP).

Riot also finally made Angler Jax, a fishing pole wielding pile of unbalanced excrement (though they did finally fix his self-healing bugs). It looks pretty fantastic, despite my thinly veiled distaste for Jax. Spectacular Sivir is a bit…expected…but still pretty cool for the Sivir players of the world (wherever they are).

LoL: Patch Day 06/08 – Olaf

Forsaken Olaf.

What do you know – the day I write a post about the general lack of LoL-related news we get a patch announcement and a preview Champion Spotlight. There is much to cover so I’ll be making several posts to try to wrap everything up.

Let’s start with the obvious: Olaf. The viking champion will be making his live debut some time tomorrow afternoon (for those of you on EST like me). He’s a tanky melee DPS champion, not entirely unlike…well, okay, he’s unlike most melee champions in the way his damage scales up with his health and the fact that his attack speed goes up as his health goes down. Overall, I think he will be a dangerous character to tangle with anywhere past level eight or so. For more on Olaf’s abilities check out my earlier post.

Aside from the new champion, the most notable change is a big fat nerf to support healing toons. Nidalee finally caught a heal nerf that should significantly reduce her ability to play like a crazy fool in the early game and heal through it all. Her heal is down nearly 30 percent at all ranks, though it did get an ability power bump from .8 to 1.25. That sounds big, but it will mean a weaker early game and about the same mid to late for her, which is just what she needed.

Ezreal caught a similar (and long overdue) nerf. The heal from his Essence Flux is now down to 50 percent of the damage dealt and has had the attack speed debuff reduced as well. Trueshot Barrage had its AP ratio down from 1.0 to 0.7, which should keep him more in line with other highly escapable champions.

The rest of the champion changes are fairly minor barring the Kayle remake, which I’ll cover in another post. TF caught a bit of a nerf and Shen’s shield was indeed reverted to work like a regular shield, which is sure to bring a lot of tears from Shen players (honestly, those guys are starting to sound like Jax players to me).

As for the rest of the game, there’s a new, ability power equivalent to the BF Sword called the Needlessly Large Rod. For 1600g you can get 80 AP. It’s a nice boost for those AP Kat players and frankly, it’s been a long time coming. Twisted Treeline got a few gold generation changes and some rework on the Lizard, but none of that stuff is really going to change the game too much.

I’ll be covering the rest of the patch throughout the next couple days. Keep an eye out for the new skins. They are oh-so-sweet.

LoL: Patch Day 06/01 – Malzahar

Malzahar, Prophet of the Void.Patch Day is here once again, strangely enough the day after a national holiday, and with it comes the newest hero, Malzahar. As with many of the recent patches, this one also includes a load of tweaks for a number of heroes, the most significant of which is Teemo, but lacks any major reworks for the toons who most need it. This patch also added several new items to the game to help with the hybridization of many of the new heroes.

First up, let’s talk Malzahar. As mentioned in some previous, unsanctioned posts, Malzahar is a very strong caster, particularly in 1v1 situations. If your target doesn’t have cleanse, you can pretty much burn them down with a combination of your E skill, your Ultimate, and Ignite. You will find, though, that his damage output can be a little inconsistent if your targets aren’t under some sort of crowd control. Null Zone does great damage, but you need to pin your target on the spell to really maximize its potential. Even his silence can be a bit tough to land if your target knows it might be coming. That said, it’s probably a bit to earlier to judge his overall effectiveness for team situations. The fact that he has AOE silence makes him a great addition to a team, and being able to effectively shut down an enemy champion is pretty nice.

I’ll be covering the Teemo changes in a separate post, so let’s talk items. I was surprised to see the spell vamp removed from Haunting Guise, but the new item, Will of the Ancients, seems like a pretty nice (albeit expensive) replacement. I think it’s important to note, though, that Guise doesn’t make a lot of sense in most builds. Now you purchase it mainly for the spell penetration, which potentially opens up your boot selection. In most cases, though, you’d probably be better off going for a Void Staff. It’s no secret Riot wants to rethink the penetration system, particularly flat penetration, so discouraging flat pen items does make some sense.

As for the HexTech Gunblade, I think it’ll work well with quite a few heroes. I’m going to be giving it a shot on Shaco and Kennen this week as well as the obvious choice, Akali. Among the others that could benefit from a hybrid item, though, are Jax, Nidalee, Ezreal, Eve, TF, and Teemo. You might even start to see it on someone like Yi to improve his lanestay a bit.

All in all, I like this patch. No sweeping changes to the game, but some solid improvements and a cool new hero to add to the mix. Stay tuned for more impressions.
