LoL: Urf the Manatee contest winners are up

Urf the Manatee memorial.Riot has finally posted the winners of the Urf Memorial Contest in the official forums. Each grand prize winner is being awarded 5,000 Riot Points and the “Friend of Urf” forum title, while runners up will receive 2,800 RP and the forum title, and the honorable mentions will just bask in the glory of a shiny new forum title.

Looking over the entries I’m a little sad I didn’t enter this thing. Some of them are admittedly great, but some others are pretty weak. Could you write a limerick with a thesaurus? I could.

My petty jealousy aside, congrats to the winners. That’s a lot of RP to be throwing at the Store and I wish I could say I was among your ranks. Check out the full list of winners on the official forums and be sure to give their entries a look/listen.

LoL: Tell your friends about this site!

The title of this post may be a little misleading but it’s an honest plea. It’s been great to have additional traffic to the site and more input than just my own on the topics I post. I’m fairly certain this is one of few sites that focuses on creating new and original posts about LoL every day, whether it’s news items, op-eds, or just musings on day-to-day gaming. I would love to see community feedback continue to grow and grow.

So please, tell your friends and keep coming back. I’ll try to keep up with the comments as fast as they’re coming in. If you ever want a game together you can find me at “The Wiggin Boy” in game. Thanks for the support!

LoL: Kennen data for the haters

Kennen victory list.I can’t believe how many people think Kennen is underpowered. I just don’t understand. I’ve been playing him almost exclusively since the patch and I’ve been a dominant force in every single game. I could understand if I was playing at a fairly low ELO and noobstomping, but I know my stats aren’t so bad. Honestly, I’m just a few percentage points away from a high-ELO play if recent posts are to be believed.

Here’s a look at my last ten games as Kennen, all victories (yes, I finally pulled a nice winning streak). Several of them I did run with a premade, but for most it was either partial premade or solo queue.

Victory: 13-0-2
Victory: 5-0-2
Victory: 3-0-6
Victory: 13-2-6
Victory: 9-1-13
Victory: 10-3-10
Victory: 4-1-5
Victory: 10-0-4
Victory: 9-0-3
Victory: 13-2-3

Total numbers are 89-9-54. I’m averaging almost 9 kills a game on Kennen with less than one death per game. I’m sorry, I just don’t see how anyone could think he’s UP. I can’t wait to have this little ninja on my top 3 list.

LoL: Snowballing on Twisted Treeline

Snowballing on TT.I decided to stay up last night and grab a few solo queues on TT to see how I would fare with Kennen. The first game went pretty well. I was holding my own, not necessarily dominating (they had a Shen/Poppy/Warwick so it was tough to burst a target down) but I wasn’t dying and I was picking up the occasional kill. Our own Shen wasn’t using his ult early enough, though, and we ended up losing a long game after some intense teamfights. Overall it was a lot of fun.

Unfortunately that kind of game isn’t the norm for Treeline. Most games I see are landslides in either direction, even if they take 30-40 minutes to finish. It’s a problem I think will be hard to balance if only because 3v3 is much less forgiving to players prone to making mistakes. In the next game my opponents weren’t nearly careful enough with me early game. Only one had cleanse and the others were short on CC.

You can see the results in the screenshot I posted. Take a look at Fiddle’s farm compared to my own. He was so far behind by the time I had 4 kills that there was just no coming back.

LoL: Garen skill list and impressions

Garen, the Might of Demacia.I made it home from my weekly volleyball league this past week in time to catch the majority of the Garen livestream. It was a little tough to tell what was going on, in large part because Riot’s Jeff Jew was trying to talk about everything so quickly that a lot of what the champion actually does was lost. I picked up on some of the specifics in the Q&A after the livestream and luckily the guys at LoL Wikia have catalogued everything. Here’s a look at the Garen skill list:

Innate (Passive): Regenerates .6 percent of Garen’s max health per second after 5 seconds of not receiving or dealing damage.

Decisive Strike: Garen gains a small speed boost and his next attack will deal bonus damage and silence the target. This ability can critically strike.

Commanding Presence: (Passive) Increases armor and magic resistance by 0.5 per minion kill. (Active) Reduces incoming damage by 15-35 percent (depending on skill rank) for a short period of time.

Keeping the Peace: (Toggle) Garen spins around, dealing area of effect damage that scales with attack damage. He is able to move during the ability and cannot be slowed. This ability can critically strike.

Demacian Justice: Deals magic damage to an enemy based on the amount of health they’re missing (1 damage per 2 missing health). Cannot be used during Keeping the Peace.

For an “awe-inspiritng, furious maelstrom at the forefront of an assault,” I’m a little underwhelmed. The best thing about him seems to be his passive MR/armor gain, which from the sound of the livestream is capped, though maybe I heard things wrong. Other than that his initiation combo seems to be a speed burst -> whirlwind combo for slow immunity, which doesn’t make him immune to stuns and certainly won’t keep him alive unless you blow the damage reduction at the same time, in which case I’m pretty sure everyone will be crying OP. The fact that his abilities can crit will likely be decent on SR and overpowered on Treeline and his ult is just another finisher. As soon as he’s up on the test realm I’ll give him a playtest and let you know what I think.
