Dragon Age coming to Mac on December 21st

Dragon Age coming to Mac.For a while there I only owned a Mac, so my computer gaming was severely limited. Luckily, Blizzard was always on my side, so I at least had something to play. Mac gamers can rejoice today, as BioWare announced last night that it would be bringing Dragon Age: Origins to the Mac platform on December 21st.

The game will be download only, available from GameTree, Direct2Drive, GamersGate, GameTap and Best Buy. No physical version has been announced. You can get two versions of the game, the Standard and Digital Deluxe at $49.95 and $64.95, respectively. Both versions include the Blood Armor content, and the latter will get you the Warden’s Keep expansion. It’s a pretty sweet deal either way, especially considering we aren’t that far from the game’s launch.

EA’s got the full press release.

Casting director leaks Battlefront III

Battlefront III.Ya know, I’d be pretty pissed as a developer if a casting director I had worked with was leaking details about my projects all over god’s green earth. Now, Battlefront III wasn’t exactly a secret, but LucasArts hasn’t announced it yet and the best we have is rumors. Up until yesterday, anyway.

Casting director Chris Marazzo, who worked on Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption, told battlefront3.net that the game is in development and that he’s one of the people working on it.

“Thanks for getting in touch. The Original Title was Battlefront 3 but it evolved into Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption. However Battlefront 3 is also in development. It was by far the most fun and coolest casting I ever worked on.”

Marazzo also said he would try to get storyboards to the fansite “by the end of the week.” Guess we’ll see if he makes good on that. As you’d expect, there’s still no word from LucasArts.

Greenberg says Reach will be the biggest game of 2010

Aaron Greenberg lookin silly.Microsoft had a great November. The Modern Warfare 2 launch pushed through 4.2 million units, nearly a million more than Halo 3 did at launch. Among other things, the 360 outsold the PS3, even though overall sales were down year on year. Microsoft’s product management director, Aaron Greenberg, had a lot to say on the matter, but the most notable was his prediction for Halo: Reach.

“I feel confident that there’s nothing that will compare in size. Halo: Reach will be the biggest game of 2010.”

So what else releases in 2010? Here’s a short list:
-StarCraft II
-Mass Effect 2
-God of War III
-Final Fantasy XIII
-Gran Turismo 5

Greenberg thinks the Master Chief can beat every one of those. A few on the list, sure, but GT5? Final Fantasy XIII for the West? I have my doubts.

Gran Turismo aimed at Summer 2010

GT5 evo.I know the Japanese release date set some of the GT5 fans out there to drooling. And why not? March is just around the corner. Unfortunately, the western release date for the game isn’t set, and the only approximation is “Summer 2010.” As you know all too well, that could mean virtually anything.

If you think you’ll get the game in June, think again. Chris Hinojosa-Miranda told Destructoid that Polyphony Digital hasn’t even started thinking about DLC yet. That might not seem like a big deal, but that’s one of the primary ways developers have been monetizing games today. The fact that Sony isn’t even talking about it yet says to me that they have to focus 100% on just getting the game out the door.

The good news is that when the game finally releases there will be plenty to do. The roster includes something on the order of 1000 cars. Then again, it’s tough to look at that number without wondering just how long until we get to see any of them.

Javelin glitch is officially fixed

Modern Warfare 2 Javelin.Modern Warfare 2 is now officially patched for both Xbox 360 and PS3, meaning no more javelin glitch you dirty suicide bombers. Just imagine, exploit-free games of Headquarters Pro. Are you weeping yet?

The patch doesn’t just put the kibosh on super-human-bomb-from-hell-mode, it also fixes that little problem where certain players were receiving unlimited care packages. And while Inifinity Ward was fixing those two, why not get the pesky rock glitch out of the way.

All in all, this is the best thing to happen to MW2 since release. Games are immediately more fun, more fair, and much less of a headache. This also rules out the chance that you might actually pull off a javvy glitch by accident and get yourself a temp ban. Hurray for quick development fixes.
