Current Affairs: Poppy

The official LoL forums can be an exceedingly weird place and often play out like a game all their own. Threads catch fire without any apparent reason, and today is a prime example. For whatever reason, the LoL forum community is up in arms this weekend about Poppy and how OP she is. You remember Poppy right? She’s short, likes to slam people into and occasionally through walls. Still don’t remember?
I make the joke because I see her so rarely I can’t believe this is something people get up in arms about. And OP? Sure, with a 50-minute legendary farm, but her early game is atrocious, bad enough that I don’t even bother to play her anymore.
Thankfully, that’s what Riot wants to address. They want to level her power curve a bit so that she’s more enjoyable early game and less of a running-at-mach-4 bomb in the late game. There is some bad news, though. The intended design strategy to level that curve is to push her toward a tank/AD build. Yes, make her more like the existing tanky DPS. Here’s the quote from RiotStatikk:
Poppy from the outset was designed as a tank/fighter but is currently optimally used as (in my opinion) the strongest burst caster in the game if played well. We’re looking to address this by pushing more of her output into sustained damage rather than upfront burst. This change is less about “removing” her AP build and rather more about pushing forward her AD/Tank build.
I’m hoping Riot stays true to not removing her potential for an AP buid. AP Poppy is a lot of fun with a decent farm. I think the key is keeping her power level for both builds about even. When the tanky build takes over too much, I doubt we’ll see many AP Poppy players in the world.
League of Legends website changes

I know the site is currently down, so you can’t really see these for yourself, but they aren’t exactly new so you may have already seen them. I first saw the Gragas Fail Whale today, when the servers went down after being up for just long enough for me to sneak in a game. As much as you hate to see this image (because it means things are broken), it still made me smile.
The other change I noticed was the Server Status forums. It seems Pendragon is now in charge of doling out the updates that no one wants to see (or can see, for that matter).

Riot added some additional graphics to help players understand the different champions you see in the client and explain the purpose between each possible server status. Hopefully it will squash a few of the “UNAVAILABLE WTFFFFFFFF?!?!?!” threads that pop up every time the server goes busy.
What’s the funniest insult you’ve seen or received?

There’s a funny thread in the forum right now, simply asking for the funniest insult you’ve seen or received. There are a few immediate classics inside, though my favorite has to be from Zileas. He says his funniest was the following:
Your Mom is like a free to play game. You can unlock her with effort, but it’s a lot quicker just to pay $5.
So what’s your funniest in-game insult? Though this doesn’t exactly qualify, one of the more hilarious things I’ve seen lately was a Vlad on my team who had taken mid and started to rage after a buddy I was playing with used Shen’s ult on a low health Ashe instead of the similarly low health Vlad. He started calling “gg,” threating to feed, and verbally abusing my friend for his use of Shen’s ult. At the time, Shen was 0/1/9 – pretty much a textbook definition of a solid tank – our team was up at least 10 kills and we were up on turrets. The other team surrendered at 26 minutes, but to read chat you’d think we had been losing since the five minute mark.
