Gamestop exclusive controller gets official

Gamestop exclusive 360 controller.Major Nelson has a little more to say about that Gamestop-exclusive controller that showed up on the used game dealer’s website earlier this month. It’s a partnership between Xbox and Gamestop and still totally hideous. For some reason Nelson doesn’t mention why the controller is the way it is, but if you look at the Forza 3 intro vid it seems pretty obvious. Recognize anything about that R8? Something look familiar?

The controller will come bundled with a play-and-charge kit for $69.99. That’s an awful lot to pay for an awfully ugly controller. It’s even more when you consider the holiday controller bundle, which gives you the same thing (minus the hideous makeover) plus four Xbox Live Arcade titles.

USPS worker steals 2200 games from GameFly

GameFly guy looking for his mail.A former Philly mail-handler has been confirmed to be a complete moron. Reginald Johnson admitted to stealing some 2200 GameFly games from Philadelphia addressees before they could be delivered. Johnson’s now facing 12-18 in prison.

I’d love to know how this guy thought he would get away with it. The court valued the merchandise around $84,000, which is pretty noticeable on a merchandise loss report. Add to it the fact that he’s stealing from residents in the very city where he works. Wouldn’t that be the first place GameFly might look? Why not steal from people whose mail goes through several destinations before reaching them. C’mon man, haven’t you seen Catch Me If You Can?

For Johnson’s arrest, police chased him from work until he crashed his SUV, wherein the cops found a duffel with 81 games and another 79 games in the vehicle, along with several consoles and few accessories with receipts from Gamestop.

PSP Go already on sale

PSP Go.Usually when a console debuts you can expect prices to remain stable for a while. The hype of the console sells it, usually at just about any price. The PSP Go, on the other hand, is already on sale at Fry’s for $199.

The price drop confirms that profit margins must be pretty wide on Sony’s new portable. Not too many people are buy the thing, and there isn’t exactly the same expected software revenue as other portables, so taking a loss really doesn’t make sense. With so few purchasers, it seems like Fry’s is just trying to be the only retailer to sell out of the device before the holiday season hits.

The deal is only good in-store until the 22nd, and may not be available everywhere so be sure to call ahead.

250GB PS3 Slim will cost you $350 this November

PS3 Slim in 250GB pants. It looks like Sony is willing to part with its 250GB PS3 Slim as a stand-alone console (i.e. not part of its many bundles). The company announced the new SKU today, which will run you $350 when it launches next month. The company will still offer the standard PS3 at the 80GB/160GB SKUs, making it pointless to get anything other than a PS3 Slim.

I’m still surprised Microsoft hasn’t announced the same. As the holidays edge closer it seems prudent to get a top-of-the-line system out to market as that splurge gift from mom and dad or the elusive fat, bearded guy.

If you’re big into downloaded content or digital storage for your various media, spend the extra $50. It more than doubles your drive capacity for what feels like pennies in comparison with other console storage media.

Band Hero demo is available on Xbox Live

Band Hero logo. When I first heard Band Hero I thought it was a joke. Shouldn’t that be “Band Heroes?” In any case, isn’t it the most terrible name for a video game ever? I just didn’t think it was real. Well, it is. As it turns out you can actually get the demo on Xbox Live.

Here’s the blurb from Major Nelson:

Band Hero features an all-star lineup of pop music featuring the best variety of classic chart-topping hits and current hot artists. This demo features Finger Eleven “Paralyzer”, Katrina & The Waves “Walking on Sunshine” and Taylor Swift “Picture to Burn”. Includes Party Play and the all-new Sing-Along mode.

I’m willing to admit that the music games usually illicit at least a tepid interest for me, but this is an exception (right along with DJ Hero). Not my kind of music, and even if it was, I might boycott in protest. Alas, it seems nothing can stop Bob Kotick and his relentless quest to swindle the masses out of every last penny we’ve got.
