Capcom’s Seux frustrated with Wii titles

Capcom's Antoine Seux.Capcom’s Antoine Seux, director general for the France region, is a little miffed at the Nintendo Wii. He’s staring down some terrible sales figures for what are typically high-margin games, games from the Resident Evil series, for instance. He’s particularly pissed that the Wii user base is so different, claiming that it has “radically changed” into this strange beast that’s no longer lured by core games.

It’s a ridiculous stance to take. The Wii was like a beacon of hope for the industry, the console that proved there is life (and LOTS of money) outside the core audience. Apparently that’s not what Seux wants. “The customer of [the Wii] has turned into something [of a] much broader audience. It is a disappointment,” he said to Gamekult, a french gaming site. Anyone else find it hard to take this guy seriously. A broader audience is…bad? More people buying your games is…bad?

Well it’s bad when that last part isn’t true, and Capcom hasn’t figured out how to make a game the Wii audience would like. So it’s going to neglect the platform. As Seux has it, Capcom’s future lies with the Xbox 360 and the PS3. I don’t know if he’s heard about those motion sensors the other two are getting that will broaden their customer base, but when he does, I’m sure he’ll be pissed.

Japan gets a ‘This Is It’ PS3 bundle

This Is It PS3 bundle. If you live in Japan and have a freaky Michael Jackson fetish, Sony’s got the deal for you. For some reason, and that reason is probably that Sony is the one releasing This Is It on Blu-ray, Sony has decided to bundle the MJ documentary with a PS3, available only in Japan.

For just over $350 USD you get your 120GB PS3 (the fatty, not the skinny one), a DualShock3, a USB cable, your A/V cable, a 120GB hard drive, AND a copy of the super-smash-mega-awesome-hit-documentary-dance-off This Is It featuring none other than Michael Jackson himself. It’s a good day to be a b-boy.

Once again, only available in Japan starting January 27th. You also get a nifty and exclusive PS3 wallpaper.

Amazon has your Xbox Live sub on the cheap

Xbox Live Gold Subscription. If you’re in the market for an Xbox Live Gold subscription this month, Amazon has you covered. Of course, subscriptions you buy at retailers are usually a card with a code, so even if you aren’t up for renewal for six months this may be worth your time. Amazon is selling the normally $50 subscription for just $34.99.

Saving $15 isn’t a bad deal at all. The product page doesn’t list an end date for the deal or a stock count, so I’d get mine as soon as possible.

Blizzard helps authorities track down drug dealer, WoW player

Stormwind guards capture a real life suspect. If you’re going to deal in illicit substances, you’d think you might acquire some evasive skills along the way. Not so for Alfred Hightower, an Indiana man who was arrested this week on dealing charges. How was he caught? By playing World of Warcraft.

The Howard County Sheriff’s Department of Indiana contact Blizzard after learning that Hightower played a “warlock and witches game.” How long it took them to discover that meant WoW remains unknown. Deputy Matt Roberson had pretty much given up when he got a package in the mail.

“It had been three or four months since I had sent the subpoena. I just put it in the back of my mind and went on to do other things. Then I finally got a response from [Blizzard]. They sent me a package of information. They were very cooperative. It was nice that they were that willing to provide information.”

Included in the packet were IP addresses, billing info, and game info, including Hightower’s favorite servers. Hightower was picked up by Canadian authorities, to be returned to Indiana today.

EA moves forward with Tiger

Tiger looking sad.According to a report from Reuters, EA is forging ahead with its Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online game, despite his recent PR snafus. The statement came from EA Sports prez Peter Moore, who reinforced the company’s stance that Tiger has a sponsorship for his golf skills, not his monogamy.

“Our relationship with Tiger has always been rooted in golf,” Moore wrote on EA’s blog itsinthegame.com. “We didn’t form a relationship with him so that he could act as an arm’s length endorser.” I thought the timing of the statement was odd, coming just four days after AT&T dropped Tiger from its payroll. I think EA’s doing the smart thing, though. Sure, people are pissed, but Tiger’s fans will be Tiger’s fans, and people who appreciate what he’s capable of on the golf course will still buy his games, regardless of how many women he’s nailing at the time.
