FINALLY client to game whisper is back

STFU Noob.spent most of the day hung up with work, but I did get a chance to test out the latest patch this afternoon. I’ll have a full set of impressions for you, but I experienced the absolute best part of today’s changes within the first three minutes of my first game. I got a whisper from a friend who wasn’t in my game.

For those who don’t know, players used to be able to communicate from client to game and vice versa before Season One. When ranked play launched, though, the feature was taken away, and though I’ve heard several reasons, I don’t know for sure so I won’t speculate too much. Whatever the reason, it was infuriating to be alt-tabbing to get the Skype messages my friends had sent just to see if I was playing another game.

Those days are finally gone, and we can once again annoy each other with cross-game chat.

LoL: I was dead wrong about Deceive

Mad Hatter Shaco.

As it turns out, I was dead wrong about the deceive bug. The skill is currently working as intended, dealing 140 percent of your base damage at rank one and scaling up. It does seem a little silly that you don’t get to a regular crit level of damage until rank four, but then again I seem to fare pretty well with Shaco so maybe I shouldn’t complain.

I do miss the days of two-shotting any caster that looked at me funny.

LoL: Servers are up, store is down

Taric in the 5th Age.The servers are officially back online and staging games. I’m in one now to give a test to some of the new features, mostly the new store. I would love to say I’m giving Kennen a go, but the store is down and I haven’t been able to purchase him.

Udyr’s running a thread on the forums to address the store maintenance. There is no ETA yet, but hopefully it will be fixed within the next hour.

I neglected to mentioned a couple new skins in the patch. Pantheon got a 300-themed skin, all shirtless, rippling goodness, and Taric got a crazy-fabulous pink skin, dubbed the Armor of the 5th Age. I have no clue what that means, but it looks pretty incredible. Nothing quite like marching down towers in bright pink glory.

LoL: Shaco bug fixes coming

Shaco background.I’ve been a part of a popular thread on the test realm forums regarding Shaco bugs. If you haven’t played Shaco recently you might not want to start. As fun a character as he is, he’s horribly buggy right now, sometimes to the point of breaking the game.

As a for instance, I was running down a Kat the other day on TT. I had just given her a nice burst to put her at 10 percent health or less. A simple deceive and maybe a two-shiv and she was done. Nothing stood between us but a wide open lane. I press Q, click up next to her and…I go nowhere and stay visible. My deceive cooldown starts and I stare at my computer with a sad dejected look. We still haven’t nailed down why this happens but it’s happened a few times for me and others.

The big one, though, is deceive damage. When deceive allows you to port and stealth it’s not dealing proper damage. I first noticed it when I was attack creeps on Twisted Treeline. I had approximately 155 damage and was deceive critting minions for around 330 damage, almost exactly the 200 percent crit plus the 10 percent damage from the offensive mastery without the bonus 120 percent damage that should be applied by level 5 deceive.

Shurelia has confirmed an upcoming hotfix for this, likely on Monday. It was supposed to have been in today but it got pushed back because of some technical issues.

MW2 javelin glitch is grounds for Xbox Live ban

Modern Warfare 2 javelin. If you’re interested in what it feels like to get a temp ban on Xbox Live, go do a little suicide bombing in Modern Warfare 2. As Microsoft’s Stephen Toulouse tweets it: “While IW works on getting the MW2 glitch fixed, people we catch using it will recieve suspensions from LIVE. Play fair everyone.”

Now I understand the idea to an extent – bans because of game ruining – but banning players for something that game developers missed seems a little ridiculous. There are far easier ways to ruin games, like throwing them in your opponents favor, that won’t get you banned (I’m not talking about boosting here). And really, who hasn’t gotten a little tipsy/slaphappy/what-have-you and had a little fun.

I won’t say the glitch isn’t a game breaker. It is. But temp bans on a paid service for a glitch that almost everyone in the game is now aware of? One that really isn’t that hard to stop (how bout you don’t shoot the guy running around with a javy)? This kind of thing makes me want to go eat a glass apple.
