Over the holiday weekend I did my best to stay as far out of the loop as possible. I wasn’t checking my usual gaming sites, I wasn’t reading any of the forums, and obviously I wasn’t doing any gaming. Imagine my surprise, then, when I came back to discover the jungle changes.
I’m not going to do much analysis here. I haven’t been able to spend enough time in the jungle to really assess the changes. For now, it seems like the damage nerf makes jungling possible for a wider range of characters but the XP nerf makes it less viable for those characters. As I get more time in the jungle I’m sure I’ll have more to say. For now, let’s go over the changes.
Smaller jungle camps now respawn more quickly, offer reduced XP and gold rewards (though these now scale with duration of the game), and drop a health sigil from the largest mob. Buff camps are easier to kill and offer extra XP but with reduced gold rewards. The changes are designed to help a wider variety of champions and builds get into the jungle. These changes should also make jungling more viable at lower summoner levels. When I used to play on my smurf account a bit, it was nearly impossible to jungle because of the lack of runes.
Even with the changes, jungling odd champions feels extremely slow. I played a jungle Teemo earlier today and fell way behind the bottom lane. It was partially caused by his reduced speed, but I think the reduced XP from smaller camps really hurt me.
Like I said, I’ll have more impressions in the near future. For now, let me know what you think. Is the new jungle better or worse than the old version? Any strange new build you’ve seen play successfully?

I feel the changes were mostly negative frankly. Respawns are so fast now it’s like a lane with no opponent and nerfed gold. I think it’ll be a great place for champs with abominable early games who rely upon a certain level of farm. Think about placing a poppy there until level 6 or so she’ll be able to emerge with either a sheen or a philosopher’s stone and a Heart and be able to bully in lane a bit more than a lane poppy can without a top notch babysitter.
attempting to lower lane passivity by greatly lowering jungle aggression. too bad it didnt work, jungle ganks are only one of the many reasons why passive laning is so lucrative. now ive got a nerfed jungle and my teamates have nothing to gain from it.
The lanes are acting exactly the same and i get less time to run out of a bush and shake things up before i gotta run back and clear things up again. if im not playing udyr I feel completely overwhelmed by the respawn timers.
I saw a jungle ashe today it was pretty cute, she was 3 levels behind me who was 1 level behind the duo lanes, poor girl never stood a chance.
unless your clear speed in absurd, (udyr, shyvana, skarner, master yi) your dead out of water in the new jungle, theres just so much clearing to do if you cant keep up your screwed.
even my lee sin is starting to feel the squeez as his jungle clearing speed is only average.
when the mastery changes came out, junglers were clearing 20-30 seconds faster, with the nerfs to the jungle its basicaly even back out to were its always been.
the sigils seem a bit pointless, they tend to heal UP TO 50-60 health if your inches from dieing otherwise you probably wont even notice them 10-20HP, and with the increased number of camps to clear, it actualy might hurt you depending on your clear speed.
On a whim, I decided to do a Jungle Poppy build. It’s definitely not the fastest jungle in the world, but I can keep pace with the duo laners. I never fell behind in level, and I came out with a 9/6/7 score. Not amazing, but not horrible either.
Plus, it’s hilarious to flash out of the bush and instantly slam your enemy into the wall with her charge. Best gank ever.
Aparently there is a hotfix incoming they are going to increase the gold and value of the smaller camps.
A welcome improve ment as it is now even the fastest jungler I own udyr who’s fast enouph to not only keep the jungle empty like the old jungle but also invade my opponent and steal camps I was still behind the duo lanes. Completely rediculius that a jungle and a half at my disposal and I’m doing worse than the support.
Every opponent I’ve faced in the jungle has been far worse off then me and my team (premade) complains I don’t gank like I used to. Aparently this new passive jungle is suppose to fix the problem with lanes being passive? Fat chance.
