Riot should let 3-man premades play 5v5 solo
I’ve been trying to spend a good bit of time in solo queue over the course of the weekend to see how things feel. There are still a lot of the same problems – bad players have been carried, good players are in brackets well below their skill level, there is so much animosity among teammates that it’s nearly impossible to organize people. My problem is that I want to see the stats that ranked matches provide, but playing the queue as a solo is painful.
I really think Riot should open up the solo queue to allow 3-man premades. There is really no reason not to. Among the queues, solo seems to be taken the least seriously. Even with three people, the chance for your other two players to be atrocious is high enough that it really shouldn’t be much different from the two man system.
I know there are normal games, but the fact that normal stats aren’t being tracked gives players too much flexibility to leave games without consequence. I still want to enjoy a competitive game with my friends on Summoner’s Rift and, unfortunately, the current system doesn’t allow for that.

I thought they were already? Huh. Well, then I guess I’ll be a voice of dissent and say “No!”. For those of us that are almost entirely confined to the solo queues… it’s usually such an atrocious beating when the other team in an unranked game is a partial premade, I’d really hate to see that leak into ranked. I like ranked solo because it’s a step above unranked solo, and much less likely to have leavers at least – and feeders seem less common as well.
I wouldn’t mind there being a separate “mixed” q for people who want to play with partial premades, or who have a partial premade. I know I like it when I luck out and get teamed with one and they aren’t a bunch of dicks (although a night or two ago I got one and their 3rd left for a “beer run” 2 minutes in and the other two insulted me when I mentioned how lame that was).
You know what, I’m confused.
Do they allow duos but not trios? There were a number of dev posts at one point about how the best way to climb the solo elo ladder was in a duo – was that in reference to unranked?
Duo queues are allowed in solo ranked play.
I think I’m going to start playing more ranked games. In Normal, it takes me 15 minutes sometimes to find a solo match for 3v3 and even then, I still get put with people a few levels below me (both on my team and the other).
OK, gotcha. Well, if 2s are already in no reason not to allow 3s. Ideally, they should only be matched against other mixed premade teams though, just imho of course.
Agreed – pure solo matches should be solo and partial premades against partial premades. Granted, some solo folks will get dragged into those partial premades, but at least they’ll be with the premade folks.
I have to disagree, 3 man premades are way too much of an advantage over solo queue, especially if you’re on vent. I had not used vent yet, but I visited my parents house and did a lot of gaming with my brother this weekend (Zirze for those of you who were there last Monday).
Holy $h1T!!! I know Zirze is a good player, but the communication aspect just made the game so much easier. We picked up Flowerbridge, a 15xx solo-queue guy I know from another forum and just destroyed ranked 3×3; I can only imagine what would have happened if the 3 of us could have run in 5×5 ranked.
Yeah, I think vent will always be one of those things holding me back from being an “awesome teammate”. Well, maybe if LoL is still around in a couple of years when my kids sleep through the night I’ll give it a shot
